Our History
Founded in 1885, Hesketh Golf Club is Southport’s oldest, blending links and parkland to create a natural, wind-shaped test between the Irish Sea and the Ribble Estuary. First laid out by J. O. F. Morris and later refined by five-time Open Champion James Braid and George Lowe, the course now measures just over 6,800 yards, finishing with a dramatic run through the dunes.
A founding member of the English Golf Union in 1924, Hesketh has hosted Open Championship Qualifying and produced players including Lee Slattery and Matthew Baldwin.
Less than 10 minutes from Royal Birkdale and within easy reach of Liverpool and Manchester, Hesketh offers a historic and authentic golfing experience.

The Course
Set on the northern edge of Southport where the dunes meet the Ribble Estuary, Hesketh blends links and parkland elements to offer variety and a genuine coastal test.
With holes threading through the sandhills, the course demands accuracy, strategy, and control. Fairway bunkers, raised greens, and subtle contours test every part of the game, with the par-3 16th being our signature hole.
Playing to a par 72 at just over 6,800 yards, the course closes with two par 5s capable of turning any match. Well-conditioned and naturally scenic, Hesketh delivers an authentic north-west links experience.
England’s Golf Coast
LOCATION
We are located in Churchtown, Southport, at the northern end of England’s Golf Coast – just 10 minutes from Royal Birkdale and close to Hillside and Formby, we sit at the heart of one of the UK’s premier golfing regions.
ACCESS
Southport railway station is 10 minutes away, with direct links to Liverpool and Manchester. Liverpool John Lennon Airport is 45 minutes, and Manchester Airport just over an hour. Premier League venues Anfield, Goodison Park, Old Trafford and the Etihad Stadium – are all within an hour.
ACCOMMODATION
Southport and the surrounding area offer a wide range of accommodation, from boutique town-centre hotels to resort-style options with spa facilities.

Catering is available from 09:00 to 18:00. Catering outside of these times may be arranged subject to advance notice for groups of 16+.
Practice Facilities
All practice facilities will be available to visitors, including the Driving Range, Short Game Area, Driving Nets and Putting Green.

SPECIFIC REQUESTS
From drop-off to pick-up, visitors are taken on a journey through all areas of the club. With access to practice facilities, followed by a round supported by experienced caddies, and full use of the clubhouse and dining facilities.
Bespoke arrangements can be organised in advance through the club. Every detail is managed to ensure a smooth, memorable visit for players and guests.
